What is an Adjustment?
The chiropractic adjustment is a therapeutic manipulation that uses controlled force, leverage, direction, amplitude, and velocity directed at specific joints. In other words, an adjustment involves a lot more than simply opening up a joint. Chiropractic adjustment is a highly refined skill acquired during years of intensive training. To do that, CORE Health Centers’ chiropractor will apply pressure to the bone and unlock, or free, them from their improper position. The bone will then be free to align itself correctly. When a patient has a subluxation, chiropractic adjustment can be used to correct the misalignment, which in turn helps enhance joint mobility, reduce pain, reduce muscle spasm, and reduce nerve irritation or impingement. During chiropractic adjustment treatments, a relieving sensation is felt most of the time, although minor discomfort has been reported if the surrounding muscles are in spasm or the patient tenses up during this chiropractic care.
So What Actually Happens During an Adjustment?
When your joints become subluxated, "locked up”, or misalignment they limit your range of motion. When you bend and move, they remain locked up and can cause pain, discomfort, and other health issues. The joints above and below the subluxated areas can become compromised do to them compensating for the immobilized joints. During a chiropractic adjustment at CORE Health Centers, one of our trained and knowledgeable chiropractors will apply light pressure to specific vertebrae. By restoring motion to the joints that are locked up, a CORE Health Centers chiropractor restores health and function to the body.
Through a chiropractic adjustment combined with therapy, CORE Health Centers can help eliminate symptoms such as:
- Neck Pain
- Pinched Nerves
- Shoulder Pain
- Back Pain (Mid & Low)
- Bulging Discs
- Sports Injuries
- And much more!
What’s the “Popping Sound”?
There is often a soft “popping sound” that can be heard during the chiropractic adjustment. This is caused by small pockets of air or bubbles, which are in the fluid that surrounds your joints. When joint tissues are stretched during a chiropractic adjustment, the pockets of air "pop," which creates that cracking sound you hear. When the gasses are released, the fluid within the joints lubricates the joint surfaces restoring movement and nerve function. Depending on how long your joints have been locked up and how severe the injury, determines how quickly you’ll feel relief, but most people feel better right away.
